Internet Explorer does not currently provide robust and configurable features to secure web content (i.e. text and media) so they may not be copied or utilized elsewhere. These types of features are desirable when securing sensitive information or learning content for distribution to a wide audience.
VTN clientele have expressed a need for securing their web-based content, while being able to easily distribute it to their clients and students. They have also expressed the need to be able to sell subscriptions to their content, or manage the distribution of it to specific individuals.
These needs prompted the development of Cobrador. Although there are other products on the market, most of them are not targeted to rights management, learning content, and computer based training scenarios, which can have unique requirements.
Cobrador will allow you to take standard HTML pages and their embedded content, and encapsulate them into a stand-alone or runtime executable protected against copying of the materials in part or in whole or to prevent the student from accessing the internet during exams, etc.
Users can be denied access to the computer desktop or other applications while they are using your content - protecting the content, or preventing users from exiting the application in a public display kiosk.
The application provides for the deployment of your web content in a run-time executable for use on CD-ROM or secure installation on a hard drive, using a third party locking-mechanism software.
For example, third party products like Vincera SmarteLock and Crypto C++ provide added security and authentication to the installation of any instance of Cobrador. This is accomplished by locking the application from executing unless the user has subscribed to the content via an authenticated process or subscription process.
